Going to the pool is one of the best ways to spend a hot summer day. Whether you’re going for a quick swim, having a family outing, or hosting a pool party, there are some rules of etiquette everyone should follow. We’ve compiled this handy list so you can make sure your next pool experience is as excellent as possible!

Keep Floats and Other Toys at A Safe Distance from The Pool

• cause damage to pool equipment.
• toys can be a safety hazard for small children and pets.
• keep your boogie boards, floats, and other toys safely from the pool, so they don’t get lost

Always Rinse-Off Before Getting in The Water

• rinse before getting in the water.
• keep your mouth closed when you’re underwater, and don’t spit or cough while swimming (or at any other time).

Clean Up After Yourself and Others

One of the most important etiquette rules is to clean up after yourself. If you drop something in the pool, it’s your responsibility to get it out — and this includes other people’s belongings as well! If a piece of trash ends up in the water, someone else might have to go fishing for it, which is not fair.

This can get messy and complicated quickly—but remember: if there was something that got damaged or ruined by being left in the pool, the chances are good that other things will too!

Don’t Get in The Pool If You Have an Open Wound or Rash

A long list of things you can get from swimming in the pool is far worse than a sunburn. These include:

• fungus infection, like athlete’s foot or ringworm
• staph infection
• viral infection, such as the herpes virus or chickenpox (viral infections are contagious)
• bacterial infections, including ear infections and cellulitis

Swim Safely 

When on lifeguard duty, always keep an eye on the pool. You’re responsible for making sure everyone is safe, that they’re following all of the rules, and having fun.

Pool Parties

A pool party is a great way to relax and have fun with your friends. But it’s essential to keep in mind that, while you may be having fun, your neighbors might not enjoy themselves as much—especially if they’re trying to sleep or relax after a long day at work.

Be sure that you follow noise restrictions wherever you host your pool party. This can include the volume of music being played and how many people are present at any given time. If there is a quiet hour policy in place for where you live (or even if there isn’t), make sure that everyone stays within those limits when coming over for your party! 

It also means ensuring enough space so no one feels crowded or uncomfortable during their time at this event. Last but not lastly important: make sure everyone has fun! That goes double if someone says something offensive about another person; don’t let them get away with it!

Follow the Rules

As with any other activity, pool etiquette is often dictated by the rules and regulations of the establishment you are visiting. If there are posted rules about noise level restrictions, pay attention to them.

If there are no posted rules on noise level restrictions, then it is up to you as an individual how much noise you make at the pool area. Generally speaking, being respectful of others is always a good idea, especially if you’re at someone else’s home or business!

Kiddie Pools

The kids’ pool is a special place, and use it as such. Don’t use it as a parent unless your child is swimming there. It’s not a place to cool off, relax, or get away from the grown-up pool and its rules.
