Looking Toward 2015

The end of the year is just around the corner. Before long we will be diving into 2015 with returning pool building trends and brand new designs gaining popularity as the months roll on. We have seen hot tubs integrated into the design of the pool itself, led lighting creating a dramatic swimming experience, and sloped beach entry pools all come to fame in 2014. They will continue to grow in popularity, but a series of new trends is looking to take hold as well.

These new trends incorporate both functionality and artistically pleasing designs into the pool building process. Just a few to keep an eye out for include:

    • More Water Features: Modern day swimming pools are not just limited to flat geometric shapes. They have expanded to include features such as waterfalls and water grottos. Other water features include cascades, which much like waterfalls, have water flowing down the side or rocks and structures. Spray jets are popular with the younger crowd and increase the range of activities they can do in the pool.
    • Fire Features: People looking to take their design to the next level may want to look at adding fire features to their pool. These can be anything from simple firepits in various locations to islands that appear to float in the pool with various fire based features. Some even go as far to add a wall near the edge of the pool with torches or other fire features.

    • Knife-Edge Pools: For a slightly more upscale design, knife-edge pools may fit the bill. These give an mirrored appearance to a pool by having the water level match the pool deck level. The water flows into a slot-edge around the pool to keep it from overflowing. These pools may require a slightly more complex set-up, but it is a beautiful design that will impress the neighbors.
    • LED Lighting: Though already a popular addition to a pool’s design, LED lighting is still expanding into more possibilities. Some have a simple set-up with lights along the inside of their pool. Others are taking it a step further, placing them inside water features for a truly magical effect.
    • Natural Pools: Natural pools are designed to blend in with the natural world around them. Appearing less like a pool and more like a part of nature. They rely more on plants to help clean the water then chlorine. They are already popular in some European countries and are catching on in the United States.
